Trinity College is required by the Australian Government, under the Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act 2000), in accordance with the National Code (part of the ESOS Act) to provide and maintain safe and appropriate accommodation and welfare arrangements for students under 18 years of age.

Changes to Trinity's Confirmation of Appropriate Accomodation and Welfare (CAAW) arrangements

We are now working with ISA Student Advocates to provide even better service to our younger students.

All Trinity College students who need a CAAW are required to have care arrangements with ISA and live in Trinity pre-approved accommodation. The CAAW cannot be issued until both the accommodation and the welfare confirmations are received.

Your agent can assist you with this process or you can contact Trinity's accomodation team for assistance.

Trinity will use the accommodation booking dates to determine the start date of the CAAW.  A CAAW can commence up to 14 days prior to the commencement of a program. See the CAAW dates guide here.

Students will not be able to arrive in Australia prior to the commencement of the CAAW period.

Finding you the right accommodation

Trinity College works with a number of third parties that provide accommodation for international students. These accommodation providers focus on community engagement, social interaction and safety, and have 24/7 security, on-site student support and integrated technology.

What's included?

Our approved student accommodation is within walking distance from Trinity College and the University of Melbourne and includes fully furnished rooms and apartments with high-quality fixtures and fittings. Rent is all-inclusive for your convenience and covers electricity, water, contents insurance, fast and reliable Wi-Fi, a coin-operated laundry, secure bike storage, and communal spaces such as gyms, games areas, group study rooms, big-screen TV areas and barbecue areas.

Some accommodation providers have cafes on-site and/or provide free breakfast and other meals throughout the week. There are also self-catered options, and we recommend students have some basic cooking skills before arriving.

Lease terms

Students usually need to commit to staying in their accommodation for at least 6 or 12 months under a lease agreement or contract. If they vacate before the end of the lease/contract period, they may be required to continue paying the rent for the duration of the original lease/contract. As per the Residential Tenancies (Residential Tenancies Amendment Act 2018) Transitional Regulations 2021 (Victoria), penalties apply to breaking a lease/ contract. These penalties should be discussed with the accommodation provider prior to accepting or signing a new lease/contract.

Visa conditions

If you are under 18 years of age, your visa is approved for you to stay at your agreed accommodation. Failure to comply may result in cancellation of your student visa.

Living with a relative

While studying, students under 18 years may live with a relative, who either currently lives in Australia or travels with the student to Australia, provided this person is at least 21 years of age, has enough money to support the student throughout their stay, and is able to provide accommodation and other support. The Department of Home Affairs needs to approve this arrangement.
