Join us on Tuesday 12 May at 12.30pm for a Q&A session with Professor Dave O'Connor, a leading virologist and world expert on viruses from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to learn about the latest research on COVID-19.
About the speaker:
David O’Connor, PhD, is a UW Medical Foundation Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and chair of the Global Infectious Diseases division of the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center. His laboratory studies the interplay of genomics, immune responses, and emerging viruses. Additionally, his group extends non human primate models and research tools originally developed in response to HIV to study other RNA viruses such as Zika virus and human coronavirus 2019. He is also a strong advocate for improved real-time data sharing to accelerate infectious disease research.
David served on the NIH AIDS Research Advisory Committee and provided scientific guidance on the US response to the 2016 Zika virus epidemic. He recently finished a year at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity as a University of Melbourne Miegunyah Distinguished Visiting Fellow where he lived as a scholar-in-residence at Trinity College along with his wife, Prof. Shelby O’Connor, and their son Eli O’Connor. David’s research and perspectives on COVID-19 have been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, Science Magazine, and the Discovery Channel.
