What Students Say

The Young Leaders Program began at Trinity in 2001. Students who participate in these programs not only experience a taste of university life and the pathway to tertiary education, but also what it means to be a global citizen.

The learning that takes place outside of the classroom is just as important as the learning that takes place during classes. Students learn from each other about different cultures, values and languages. Our experience in running these programs is supported by our genuine belief that the opportunities offered to students will not only benefit them individually, but also the wider community.

I spent three weeks at YLP and it was the greatest time in my life. I met great friends and mentors who were so kind and helpful. Regardless of our race, religion, sexuality and countries, we were respected and loved each other. Before participating in this program, I always cared about what other people thought of me. Now, I have become proud of just being myself and want a challenge to expand my future.

YLP was fun and inspiring. It was a wonderful experience meeting new people from different nationalities. Also, it was a great chance to get an insight on my career pathway, as I am interested in biomedicine and the program gave me strategies, skills and perspectives to strengthen my career pathway. Becoming a valedictorian was a great achievement for me. The new ideas that I learned will change my life. Thank you YLP.

It was my first time to be that far away from home, but I felt right at home attending YLP. Peers and mentors were so kind. I also experienced what commerce may look like at university, I was energised and inspired more about how, despite where we come from, we can all come together and form a strong bond to last a lifetime! The experience made me even more confident that attending university overseas is for me and I cannot thank YLP enough for that!

To say that YLP is merely an educational trip is an outright understatement. More than ever for the first time in my life I truly experienced what it feels like to enjoy being a young adult, to travel and live independently. The highlight of the trip was not just learning about the various fields of science, but the forging of lifelong and unbreakable friendships. Participating in YLP has made me a more confident, outgoing and mature individual. I can say with conviction that I am proud of being the man I am today because of YLP.

YLP is one of the programs I care for dearly and would strongly recommend to any student who strives to explore their areas of interest. What makes this program so special is the amazing opportunity of meeting incredible people from all around the world and forming life-long friendships that will blossom. It is by far the best program I've attended, and I will always hold onto the remarkable memories I have gathered from it.

YLP was an exceptionally great experience for me. It gave me an insight on my career pathway and made me grow to become a better person. The intimate connection and the precious memories made together during the courses were cherished and never forgotten. YLP was not only educational but it included lots of fun and laughter. For the future young leaders, be prepared to encounter a life-changing experience.

The Young Leaders Program was an extraordinary experience where I got to meet people from all over the globe, the kindest of mentors and awe-inspiring professors.  The Social Justice and Personal Development streams taught me to look at life with a different perspective and to never be afraid to take the first step towards making this world a better place. It was simply fantastic to spend two weeks at Trinity College and I believe they were the best days of my life.

The welcoming people of Trinity College helped me feel right at home. I made friends with participants and mentors who were from all over the world - many whom I would not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. I was also able to experience the city of Melbourne and the University of Melbourne in a way that a tourist never could. I am also grateful for the knowledge and experience that the mentors were able to give to us. Overall, the Young Leaders Program has made a huge impact on my life, from giving me a vast network of friends all across the globe to deepening my love of trying and learning new things, and for that I can't thank YLP enough.

YLP was the most exhilarating, astonishing, unforgettable experience I have ever experienced. Witnessing all of the love and care everyone showed towards one another truly inspired me. I have gathered so much knowledge and experience just from two weeks of workshops and thrilling activities it has opened my mind to new things I never thought I would take interest in. YLP made me become a better version of myself. A much more confident, caring and understanding person. And for that I am so grateful for.
