Trinity Students and ChatGPT

Trinity’s response to ChatGPT

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has been a topic of conversation, particularly in the higher education sector, since its launch in 2022.

At Trinity’s Pathways School, there is a personalised teaching approach – with small class sizes where students are known individually by their tutors. This individual knowledge of students along with their natural writing style, expression and grammar patterns form the most reliable basis for identifying whether a student has written a particular piece of work.

Studying at Trinity isn’t just ticking a box. We want our students to succeed here, and at the University of Melbourne and beyond. The best way to achieve this is through a program that encourages students to convey their own thoughts and opinions through their own work.

We discuss all AI engines with students, advising when they are appropriate to use. We are confident in our program structure and the measures in place to monitor the use or misuse of these technologies, and also trust that our teaching helps students make informed decisions about the use of emerging technology.
