Our New Professor

Stephen Burns was appointed a Professor by the University of Divinity Council on 7 June 2017.

Stephen has been the Stewart Lecturer in Liturgical and Practical Theology at Trinity since returning to Australia from the US in 2015; he became an Associate Professor in 2015. He joins Dorothy Lee and Mark Lindsay as one of only twelve current professors of the University.

Stephen is an internationally recognised expert in liturgical and contextual theologies with an outstanding record as a teacher at universities on three continents.

He is author, editor and co-author of seventeen books and over thirty articles ranging from liturgical renewal and ministerial formation to theologies of advocacy. He has been an outstanding practitioner in the engagement and integration of theology in the liturgy and ministry of the Church across a wide range of traditions and contexts.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Divinity, Professor Peter Sherlock, says of Stephen's appointment, 'I am delighted that the University’s long tradition of expertise in liturgy will be carried forward by Professor Burns in the years to come.'
